خلاصه داستان:
دارما فریدام فینکلاشتاین - مونگومری یک مربی آزاده یوگا با قابلیت هایی باورنکردنی در دیدن جنبه های مثبت قضایا است. تحت پرورش پدر و مادر هیپی خود، یاد گرفت که از عرف و عادت های اجتماعی دوری کند و به غریزه های طبیعی خود اعتماد نموده و راه های لذت بردن از زندگی روزمره را بیابد. همسرش، گرگ مونگومری، یک وکیل محافظه کار فارغ التحصیل دانشگاه هارواد و درست نقطه مقابل دارما است. آنها در اولین قرار ملاقاتشان، با همدیگر ازدواج کردند و از همان روز اول هم، علیرغم تمامی مشکلاتی که روزگار برایشان رقم زده بود، نسبت به هم متعهد ماندند.
از جمله این مشکلات ، پدر و مادر عجیب و غیرعادی دارما هستند، ابی و لاری، که اخیرا هم یک سرگرمی غیرعادی جدید به دنیا آورده اند - بنام هری کوچولو . از آنطرف، در واقع والدین اشراف زاده گرگ عصبی و خشمگین هستند، کیتی و ادوارد، که به کندی اما بی شک این حقیقت را پذیرفته اند که پسرشان با فردی خارج از رده اجتماعی خانوادگیشان ازدواج کرده است.
اما در پایان، به نظر می رسد که همگی تفاوت های خود را کنار گذاشته اند و آموخته اند که چگونه با یکدیگر در همبستگی و آرامش زندگی کنند. گرچه هنوز مشکلات کوچکی وجود دارد که نمی شود جلوی آنها را گرفت و آنها را هموار نمود...................
